PhidgetBridge 4-Input not detected by any OS

Post by gc0105 »

Hi everyone,

I have a new PhidgetBridge 4-Input which is not detected by any OS.
I've tested: Windows 7, MacOS X HighSierra, Raspberry Pi 3B+ with Raspbian 9 stretch.

I think I have some hardware issues particularly related to a past wrong power supply.
The reason, I think that is:
- When I got the PhidgeBridge I successfully tested it with a Windows 7 pc.
- Then I tried to use the board with a Raspberry Pi3 B+. I could see the board through lsusb command, but when running the HelloWorld example (both in C and Python) the PhidgetBridge didn't show up.
- So I used a self powered USB Hub conneting the pi and the PhidgetBridge to it.
- Since then, the PhidgetBridge is not recognized by any OS anymore. I tested a direct connection to the same Windows 7 pc that used to work previously, a Macbook Air with HighSierra and the Raspberry pi 3B+ with Raspbian 9 stretch.
I also tried to change the usb cable on the sensor.

Does anyone have idea about what I could try to debug my problem?
I am worried that I irreversible damaged the PhidgetBridge.
Thank you.

It certainly sounds like a hardware failure. You should contact support@phidgets.com with your order number for a warranty replacement.

Thank you for the quick answer.

Actually I am worried I damaged the board when connecting to a USB Hub, needed to connect the PhidgetBridge to a Raspberry Pi.

The USB Hub was self powered mistakenly with a 9V voltage, and I think that damaged the board.

Do you know any way to test if that was really the reason of my hardware failure?

Thanks again.

Now when I connect the PhidgetBridge to an USB Hub, correctly powered with 5V, and then to a Windows 7 computer the result is that Windows detects an unknown device.

Device status(in Device Manager) is:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43).

All the libraries are correctly installed since this computer used to work with the same sensor.

Instead if I directly connect the sensor to the computer, it is not detected at all.

Seems pretty clear the 9v on USB killed it.
