Recommended type of connection for Load Cells

Post by RTScale »

Dear all,

during designing in a Load Cell into a new product the question about the type of connection came up. Is there any recommendation for a soldered or a plugged connection?

Thanks for all shared thoughts.

It really comes down to what the application is. If you think the cable is going to need to be unplugged and plugged in frequently, you should prioritize an ergonomic connector that is durable enough to last. If a potentially uneducated user is going to be interacting with it, the connector should have a notch that prevents it from being plugged in backwards.

If it's mostly going to be plugged in once and left alone, you should look for a connector that will keep a snug connection even if there's vibration or movement. If cost is an issue, you can just crimp pins on the ends of the wires and screw them into the Phidgets' screw terminals- this is enough to hold them firmly in place.
