Firmware Upgrade Failure (Spatial Phidget)

Post by anthonyl »

When connecting to the control panel (MacOS), the outline is red indicating a firmware upgrade is required. The phidget also flickers when showing up (meaning it shows for a second and then goes away repeatedly). When a firmware upgrade is attempted, it fails every time (usually after a few seconds).

What specific Phidget are you using? Is it a USB or VINT device?

Are there any error in: ~/Library/Logs/phidget22controlpanel.log ?

Hi Patrick, thank you for your reply! We are using a wireless VINT hub (https://www.phidgets.com/?prodid=1143) HUB5000_0. I don't see any file called phidget22controlpanel.log, but there is a file called phidget22networkserver_embedded.log that has only one error saying "failed to process result for service browser '_phidget22server._tcp'" (file attached).

We have tried a lot of stuff detailed on the phidgets troubleshooting website, and I'll list it below if it helps.

1) We closed all other programs possibly using the system (including the network interface that can be opened up to configure the wifi)

2) Reinstalling the phidgets driver

3) We have tried on multiple computers, two MacOS and one windows. The problem described in the original post happens on one of the MacOS computers, but the hub doesn't show up at all on the windows.

4) In case the power is unstable, we tried with 3 different input sources: a power outlet (with adapter), a lamp, and a computer.

5) We also laid out the cables so that cable interference should not be a problem.

If I can provide any more information to help solve this, please let me know! Thank you for all your help!

Hi,

The Spatial Phidget (MOT1102? MOT0110?) is attached to a HUB5000 and you are using the control panel on macOS (or Windows) to upgrade the firmware?

The Spatial is attaching/detaching all the time? Are you able to open it at all?

Can you provide the Phidget log from the HUB5000? Open it's web interface, go to the Phidgets tab, click on View (next to logging level).

Have you upgraded the HUB5000 to it's latest firmware (1.1.6)?

Hello,

The spatial phidget is a MOT1102, and it is connected to a HUB5000, and I am using the control panel on macOS to upgrade firmware, as you correctly stated. The phidget seems to be attaching and detaching all the time. It is red indicating the need for a firmware upgrade, so I am unable to open it at all (see this recording https://drivegooglecom/file/d/1PyqV7SEZ ... sp=sharing) (please insert the dots in the url, because it wouldn't let me submit it if it was a url). I have tried changing ports and using different wires so those two are unlikely to be the problem. Also, I have upgraded the HUB5000 to its latest firmware using the web interface, and that appeared to have been successful.

The log from the web interface looks something like this

Ok, the constant attaching/detaching probably points to a defective MOT1102_1. You should contact support@phidgets.com for a replacement unit.

Make sure that the HUB5000 has a sufficient power supply. The spatial doesn't draw much power, so it's unlikely to be an issue unless you're under voltage or something.

Thank you, we will do as you advise. We have tried multiple power sources (a computer, a lamp, and a power outlet), and all of these have had the same problem, and our power cable has a 12V output, so this is likely not the cause.

Thank you for your help!
