connect IR sensor with 1048

Post by humpataa »

Hey there,
I do have two thermocouples type K connected to my 1048. Works great.
Now I have found another IR sensor at Alibaba I'd like to use.
Since I cannot add a link here, these are the details:

Can I connect this one directly to the Phidget?
Any help is appeciated.
Thank you!

The important spec there is "Output". It looks like this manufacturer provides a number of output options for this sensor. The ones that are compatible with Phidgets are:

- 0-5V (This can be read by a port on a VINT Hub, or from an analog input like on the DAQ1000 or PhidgetInterfaceKit 1018)

- 4-20mA (This can be read by a DAQ1400 or by any of the above when connected with a 1132)

The other important thing to consider is the power supply- This sensor accepts 10-24V DC, which is a higher requirement than the typical Phidgets USB power supply (5V). Luckily, the DAQ1400 has a 12 or 24V supply pin.

So the best option would be to either get one with 0-5V or 4-20mA output, and then use the DAQ1400 (which connects to a VINT Hub).

Thank you mparadis,
so - assuming I have a decent power supply connected - it will not work when I connect it to my 1048?

The 1048 is designed specifically to connect to thermocouples, which produce a very small voltage differential based on the temperature. There's no output option for that IR sensor that would be readable by the 1048.
