total newbie, first bringup of SBC

I'm following the instructions on the website (https://www.phidgets.com/docs/OS_-_Windows) and have installed the Phidget control panel. It says no phidgets detected.
the instructions say to plug in the phidget, I powered it up. But I don't understand exactly what I'm supposed to be plugging in. It's got 3 USB A ports, which I can't plug in because I don't have an A to A cable, and it's got a network port which is plugged in to the local network.
Please tell me what "plug in" means in this context?
Next, I tried to connect it to a monitor, keyboard and mouse, and I got a login prompt, but I can't find what the initial username and password is. Please can someone provide that?
Next, I was going to try to update the OS because it's probably not up to date, but when I connect the uSD card on a PC it asks me if I want to format it. Is there a tool that I can use to put the latest SBC OS on the card?
