Simplest, easiest way to control one relay

Post by grumpus »

I am using a Phidget Temperature Sensor 1048_0 to monitor two probes in a coffee roasting machine. I would like to add one relay or contact closure to operate an existing solenoid. Is the easiest way: connect to a second USB port on the PC using "1-Port VINT Hub Phidget ID: HUB0007_0 " and "Relay Phidget ID: REL2001_0" (or "12-bit Voltage Output Phidget
ID: OUT1000_0")?

The HUB0007 and OUT1000 both look to be supported by Artisan, so this should be the simplest solution. Just make sure that the OUT1000's specifications are enough for your solenoid. It can provide about 10mA of current at 4V.

If you need more than that, you'll want to use a relay to switch an external power source to the solenoid. I'm not sure if Artisan supports the REL2001 since it's just controlled by toggling the VINT port's digital output. You may want to find other Artisan users and see how they interface solenoids with Phidgets.
